the biggest “family” reunion I’ve ever seen
I can’t tell you
that I have memories of Lopez dating back decades, but I can
tell you that my first trip to Lopez on August 1, 2008
formed memories that I will remember
and cherish for decades to come. Thanks to my dearest friend,
Doug Dudich and my “adopted” Uncle Dan Pyzola, I experienced
three of the most wonderful days of my life. We traveled from
Pittsburgh early Friday morning and arrived late morning at
the welcome center where I signed the guest book for the very
first time. That point was the true beginning of my whirlwind
three days. We checked in at the Pine Tavern, dropped off our
bags then off we went. First to Worlds End, where some of
the most beautiful scenery exists and then to admire the
Forksville Covered
Bridge. Let me assure you, the
bridges of Madison County have nothing over Sullivan County!
For two days, we
passed hours driving for miles, visiting the neighboring
towns, enjoying the music at the Blueberry Festival, the Lopez
Winery,
eating
wings at the Birch Creek Tavern,
visiting the Lopez Post
Office,
listening to stories
reminiscing
of good times had
in
the white house, meeting family, friends and “Nessy” of the
lake.
Then came Sunday
and Lopez Old Home Day … the main reason for our visit. What
an event! It was the biggest “family” reunion I’ve ever seen,
let alone, been invited to join. The atmosphere was so
festive and heartwarming. After talking, laughing, eating
some of the best food ever, dancing to the Polka Punch and
doing some shopping at the General Store, we made our way to
the Sullivan County Roadhouse, as we did every night, where
the conversation and beer
was always plentiful! The short
drive back to the Pine was always interesting to say the
least! We always made it safe and sound with enough time to
spend just a few more waking hours enjoying our time in
Lopez. I never wanted the night to end!
Thank you so
much to Doug, Uncle Dan and the wonderful people of Lopez for
my three wonderful days! We’re
already planning another trip in October!
