Brrrrrrrrrr........it is COLD!! Was MINUS 9 in Lopez on Monday morning
and the wind was whipping like crazy so I imagine with the wind chill it
was minus 20. The sun is shining, but looks good from inside. Think I'll
stay by the fire today and read a good book. Can't do that either. I
have too much to do to get things ready for the Christmas holiday.
John Gulick, Oneida, NY, visited one day last week with relatives,
Andy and Katherine Matychak and Alice Dworsky.
Glad to hear that Kitty Maximiak is feeling much better and
improving every day.
There will be no paper the week between Christmas and New Year'.
Hope you all have a Blessed Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year.
That's it for now. Enjoy your week, it sure is cold. I did hear that
Wednesday and Thursday are to be nice with rain, of all things, and
higher temperatures. As long as we don't get ice.
Have Christmas news, call me, mail me, see me or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll get it in, in the first New Year's edition. I'll be here
next time.
December 15, 2004
Guess it's
time.....we're getting some colder weather and a few more
flurries now and then. Still been pretty lucky with not
getting too much so far.
Congratulations
to Jeffery McCusker, Jr. and April Sones on the birth of their
baby girl. Cedar Moon McCusker was born at Geisinger Hospital
on 3 December, weighing 8 lb. and 20 inches long.
Grandparents are Penny Benjamin, Lopez; Roger and Cindy Sones,
Sonestown. Great grandparents are Emily Benjamin, Lopez; Jack
and Loyce McCusker, Dushore; and Sylvan and Nan Harriman,
Sonestown. Lots of luck with the new little one.
Sympathy from the community to
relatives of Mrs. Mary (Bednar) Rekito who passed away on
Sunday. She and her husband, Walter, were living in Florida.
Birthday wishes to Alice Popso
on the 20th. Also, Alyssa Pequignot will be 7 years old on
the 20th. Happy birthday to Steve Gulick and Rose Gardner who
both celebrate on the 22nd. Hope you all have a super day.
I've still seen a few flocks of
geese go over. They must be the late ones since the weather
was pretty nice.
Roy Pirritano and grandson, Adam
Aharonian, spent the weekend at their home on Dutch Mountain.
December 10, 2004
Well, we had another
little bit of snow on Monday. Was all gone Monday evening
when it warmed up and turned to rain; rained most of the day
on Tuesday, along with warmer temperatures. Last report is
that there is a "clipper" coming through and we may get more
snow on Sunday. Have to wait and see. I think we need a
little bit for Christmas Eve to help Santa deliver his
packages and make things look more like Christmas. Hope all
you little boys and girls are being good as Santa is "checking
his list".
Vic Gulick, Liverpool, NY, is
spending a few days at the home of his sister, Mrs. Alice
Dworsky and visiting his sister, Katherine and Andy Matychak
also.
Sympathy from the community to
family and friends of Mrs. Veronica (Bushofsky) White,
Buffalo, NY, who passed away last Wednesday at the age of 96.
Sympathy also to the family and
friends of Sam Matychak, Ithaca, NY, who passed away on
Monday.
If you'd like to send a card to
Jerry Decker, the full address is: Tioga Nursing Facility, 37
N. Chemung St., Waverly, NY 14892. His many friends send
their get well wishes to him.
Birthday wishes to Aaron Risser
on the 9th; Andrea (Matychak) Anderson on the 12th; and Noah
Brown will be 5 years old on the 14th. Hope you all have a
good day.
Guess that's about it for now.
Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Still time and nice
enough to get out a few decorations for the Holidays. Have
news, mail me, see me, call me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it in for you. I'll be here
next time.
December 2, 2004
Hope you all had an
enjoyable Thanksgiving with family and friends. The weather
here was good for traveling. Some places had really bad
weather and a few folks were still trying to get connections
to get home on Monday.
Spending time over Thanksgiving
with Mrs. Theresa Kulsicavage was Mr. and Mrs. Dan Kulsicavage,
Stevens, VA; and Joseph Kulsicavage, Franconia, PA. All had
an enjoyable stay here.
Mrs. Kitty Maximiak had company
over Thanksgiving. Her brother, Leo McDonald, Poconos, was
here on Wednesday and had dinner. Her sister, Sr Ella Mae
McDonald, Bristol, RI; her daughter, Mary, Kyra, Keensley, and
Quinn Vinetelli and her friend, Julio, from Jackson, NJ, were
here over the weekend and all had Thanksgiving dinner
together. They had dessert with John and JoAnn McDonald and
her mother, who was visiting from Towanda. All had a nice
time together.
Sympathy from the community to
family and friends of Mrs. Rose (Striney) Gulick who passed
away last week. She was the wife of the late Leo Gulick, from
here.
Condolences to the family and
friends of Mary Serescko who passed away last week. Her
funeral was held on Monday from St. Vladimir's Church, with
burial in the parish cemetery.
Congratulations to Craig
Germany, grandson of Jim and Barbara Craig for making the
Dean's list his first year of college. Craig attends The Art
Institute of Philadelphia and made the Dean's list for the
summer session. Craig spends time during the summers in
Lopez at the Craig home on Church Street. Keep up the good
work!
Birthday wishes to Frank
Peworchik who will celebrate on the 4th; and Elexus
Dunkleberger will be three years old on the 6th. Special
birthday wishes to Rev Mother Christophora, Ellwood City, who
celebrates her special day on the 6th. Bernie Popso also has
a birthday on the 8th. Hope you all have a good day.
Bob and JoAnn McGuire spent
Thanksgiving with Bob, Kim and Tyler McGuire, Harvey's Lake
and enjoyed a delicious dinner and good time together. On
Sunday Bob and JoAnn enjoyed another delicious dinner with
Brian McGuire and Tina, along with Marty Slocum. Thank you
everyone for this special time and anniversary wishes.
Remember, because of the
Christmas holiday, there is no Civic meeting in the month of
December. Watch the Sully for date, time and place of the
next meeting. Check out the Parks in town and see the
beautiful lights and displays that have been done. Hope to
get you in the Christmas spirit.
The Sneidar home and the
Tamburro home, both on Church Street, were filled with hunters
trying their luck early Monday morning for that "big" one.
Don't know if there were any luckers hunters.
Dick Bradshaw, West Chester, spent some time at his
home on Church Street and did some hunting while he was here.
Roy Pirritano,
Exton, and grandson, Adam Aharonian, Narvon, spent a few days
at their home on Dutch Mountain and enjoyed hunting. It's
Adam's first time so he was hoping he'd bag his buck the first
day.
Jim and Barbara Craig, Media,
spent a long Thanksgiving weekend at their home on Church
Street. They always enjoy being here for the holidays and
Barbara does the Thanksgiving meal, complete with dessert.
Irene Huray spent some time over
the Holiday with her daughter, Irene Pequignot, Linden.
Shawn, Crystal, Misty and Dylon Pequignot; Kevin and Alyssa
Pequignot; and Jennifer Pequignot and Elexus Dunkleberger all
enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at the Pequignot home.
Gary Main is spending a few days
at the Bob Main home on Church Street and hunting while he's
here. He's from the Philly area.
That's about it. Enjoy your
week, whatever your plans. Looks like the weather won't be
all that bad. Maybe some rain late week, but no storms on the
horizon. That's fine with me. I know the hunters don't like
this warm weather and no snow to track the
deer........but.......oh, well. Have news, mail me, see me,
call me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it in for you. I'll be here
next time.
November 22, 2004
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of you. Hope you have a
wonderful day with family and friends. Say an extra special
prayer for those service men and women who can't be home with
their families; those that are fighting for us so we can be
free. Let's hope the weather will be nice for all.
Louis and Lillian Verlardi, West
Patterson, NJ, visited recently with Vince and Ruth Yudzeky
and with Mrs. Rose Gardner.
Tony Sneidar, Jr., Philadelphia,
spent a few days at the Sneidar home on Church Street and did
some bear hunting
while he was here.
There were a few guys that
stayed over the weekend at the Gus Tamburro home on Church
Street.
Sympathy from the community to
family and friends of Mr. Chester Marek who passed away on
Friday.
Looks like folks are getting
their Christmas decorations and lights put up. Have to check
them all out when the lights are on after dark.
Jerry and Sylvia Dempsey, Dover,
DE, spent some time over the Thanksgiving holiday with her
mother, Mrs. Sophie Bundle. Also visiting was Nan Fedrow,
Dushore, and Vince and Ruth Yudzeky. They also visited
Jerry's family in Dushore while they were here.
I know there will be a lot of
hunters out after Thanksgiving to get that elusive deer. Be
safe as you're hunting and good luck.
Paper goes to press early so I
don't know all the visitors that will be in town over the
holiday. I'll try to get them in next week. So, guess that's
it. Enjoy your holiday, whether you travel to see family and
friends, or you have family and friends at your house. Have
news, mail me, call me, see me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it in for you. I'll be here
next time.
November 15, 2004
Boy!! The
early morning hours are pretty darn cold, but it does warm up
considerable during the day. We've had some nice days
lately. I'll take them and more, rather than that white stuff
we may eventually some slippery conditions early Tuesday
morning.
Not a lot to report this week.
Folks are staying in keeping warm. It's good to see Andy and
Katherine Matychak at home and Andy doing pretty good. We
wish him well and continued recovery.
Roy Pirritano, Exton, and
grandson, Adam Aharonian, Narvon, spent the weekend at their
home on Dutch Mountain. They did some hunting and also
visited Andy and Katherine Matychak while they were here.
Happy Birthday to Mike McDonald
on the 19th and Jaeden Patson will be two years old on the
20th. Hope you both have a great day.
Scott Woodford, Windsor, NY,
spent a nice weekend at the family home on Main Street. Sorry
we missed him this time.
Guess that's about it. Enjoy
your week, whatever your plans. With that sun being so warm,
you can get out and about. Have news mail me, see me, call
me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it in for you. I'll be here
next time.
November 10, 2004
It's getting colder. It's getting windier. It's getting that time of year when
we're going to see the white stuff flittering around out there. Doesn't sound
good to me, but guess we have to take what we get. According to reports,
we're still to get a few nice days yet.
Scott Woodford, Windsor, NY, just wants to let Aunt Agnes in NC know
that he's still finding time to come to Lopez to spend a weekend now and then.
With the weather still pretty good, it's easy to come down. Maybe she should
send some of her nice weather up this way for a while.
Civic meeting on Tuesday, 16 November, 3 p.m. at the Pavilion. Note
change of time for the winter. Memberships still being taken by Molly Johnson.
Birthday wishes go out to Brian McGuire on the 11th; Mr. Ferdie Marek on
the 12th; Monica Black and Andy Matychak both on the 16th. Hope you all
have a great day.
Happy Anniversary to Leroy and Loretta Weidner who celebrate 57 years
on the 15th. Also, anniversary wishes to Andy and Katherine Matychak who
celebrate 57 years on the 16th, the same day as his birthday. Congratulations to all.
John and JoAnn McDonald spent some time recently with their son, John,
Gretchen and Aine Lee McDonald, Worthington, MA. They helped Aine Lee
celebrate her third birthday while they were there.
There sure has been frost on the pumpkins the last few days. The leaves
are almost off the trees, what with that wind we've been having. There are a
few apples left on the swinging branches. I still see a flock or two of geese fly over.
Not too much to report right now. Enjoy your week, whatever you plan to do.
Have news, mail me, see me, call me, or e-mail me at uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it
in for you. I'll be here next time.
November 3, 2004
Hope you all had a
nice Halloween weekend. Weather wasn't all that bad
considering how many years we've had to contend with the
"white" stuff. Cooler weather, I'm sure, is on the way. I've
still seen a few flocks of geese flying South during the
week. Let's see if Channel 16's weatherman, Tom Clark, will
be right. He said he saw a caterpillar with a lot of brown in
the center with a little black on each end. According to him,
he said that means a mild winter. Let's see if that holds
up. I'm all for that for sure.
The Lopez Civic Association
sponsored annual Halloween party was held Sunday at the
Pavilion. Lots of costumed "things" showed up for a good
time. Our judges had a difficult time to pick the winners.
They did pick them and here they are:Infant\6 years - Original
- Alexia Vermeire; Prettiest - Jaeden Patson; Cutest - Paige
Burke7/12 ages - Prettiest - Devon DeSanto; Original - Jaron
Williams; Funniest - Derek Farrell 13/adult group - Prettiest
- Kristin McDonald; Original - Allan Williams; Ugliest - Matt
Williams. Prizes were given out and
refreshments served. Thanks to all who
donated "goodies" and drinks for all. Thanks to our judges
Linda, Kitty and Linda for their help. And, thanks to all who
came to help celebrate Halloween again this year. See you
again next year.
Alexia Vermeire, Altoona, spent
the weekend with her grandparents, Bill and Rhonda Stasiak,
Tanya and Billy. Crystal and Andrew came to pick her up on
Sunday after the party.
Happy Birthday to Tim Bullis who
celebrates on the 5th; Devon DeSanto will be 11 years old on
the 6th; Terry Bullis and Jim Yarnall both celebrate on the
7th; and Wilda (Wood) Paul celebrates on the 8th. Wish you
all a great day.
Happy Anniversary to V Rev Gary
and Georgette Matychak who celebrate their 31st anniversary on
the 10th. Congratulations to them and best wishes from all
their family and friends.
Jerry and
Sylvia Dempsey, Dover, DE, spent a few days with her mother,
Mrs. Sophie Bundle. They also visited Nan Fedrow, and Jerry's
family, Dushore. Had a nice visit while they were here.
Next Civic meeting will be held
on Tuesday, 16 November, 3 p.m. at the Pavilion. Note change
of time for the winter months. Membership dues being taken by
Molly Johnson.
Tony Sneidar, Philadelphia,
spent a few days of relaxation at his home on Church Street.
Jim and Barbara Craig, Media,
were able to spend a few days at their home on Church Street
and enjoyed the nice weather to get "out and about".
Guess that's all to report for
now. Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Seems like we're
having some nice weather yet to get out and do things. Have
news, mail me, call me, see me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it in for you. I'll be here
next time.
October 27, 2004
Well, we're having
some pretty nice weather, even though the leaves have all
blown off the trees. Looks good for the next few days.
Happy Birthday to Mrs. Olga
Romania who celebrates on the 28th. Also, birthday wishes to
Grace Spinosa who will be 2 years old the same day. She is
the granddaughter of Carole and David Underwood, all of
Florida, and great granddaughter of Mike and Alice Fedorchak.
Also celebrating their birthday on November 1st is Dr. Tom
Shoemaker and Destiny Miller who will be 11. Hope you all
have a great day. If you see "Doc", wish him the best.
Bob and JoAnn McGuire spent
Thursday to Sunday visiting her parents, Ed and Anna Davis,
Dorloo, NY. Also visiting with them was her sister, Karen and
Doug Bowers, Cobleskill, NY. On Friday evening there was a
surprise when Bob and Tyler McGuire, Harvey's Lake, showed up
for the weekend. All had a nice time together.
Don't forget, Tuesday, 2
November, get out and exercise your right and VOTE!!! It can
make a difference if you go to the polls rather than sitting
home and complaining about who gets in when it's over.
Not much to report this week. I
still see flocks of geese going South. Two reports now I've
heard that we are to have a mild winter and I'll go for that
also. We'll see what happens. I told someone this and they
said, "in that case, I'm going to buy an extra shovel". Guess
they know from previous experience.
That's it for now. Enjoy your
week, whatever you plan to do. There are Halloween events
taking place all over the County. Have news, see me, mail me,
call me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll get it in for you. I'll be here
next time.
October 20, 2004
Sure hope you all are
enjoying this BRISK Fall weather. Has been rather chilly for
a couple of days. The oranges and yellows are showing much
better on the trees. Don't know what's coming. Get too many
conflicting reports, so just have to wait and see. The
prediction I heard for Saturday through Wednesday does sound
pretty sound and I'll go for that.
Happy Birthday to Aine Lee
McDonald who will be 3 on the 21st. I'm sure Gramma and
Grampa McDonald will have lots of presents for her.
Don't forget
the Halloween party coming up on Sunday, the 31st, 5 p.m. at
the Pavilion. Prizes and refreshments. Hope to see you
there. If anyone in the community would like to have the
trick or treaters stop by, please leave your porch light on
from 6-9 p.m.
I know there are some archery
hunters out there, as well as some muzzle loader guys trying
to get their deer. Don't know if anyone has had success so
far. Tony Sneidar, Jr. and three friends, all from
Philadelphia, spent a few days at the Sneidar home on Church
Street. Don't know how they did.
Dick and Adell spent a few days
at the Bradshaw home on Church Street and Adell was
disappointed that the sun didn't shine as much as she would
have liked. I think all of us would like more sunshine.
Not so much to report as folks
are kind of staying in by the fire. So, I guess that's it.
Enjoy your week, whatever your plans. Have news, mail me, see
me, call me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it in for you.
October 13, 2004
Well--how do you like this nice, brisk fall weather?? The
geese are really flying now. Was very cold and windy Sunday
and Monday, with not much sunshine at all. Maybe we'll still
get a few nice days. I can hope, can't I??
Barbara Craig, Media, Susan
Salmieri, Dunedin, FL, and Tina Danese, Upper Darby, all spent
a nice weekend at the Craig home on Church Street. Was the
first time for Susan and Tina and they said they were very
impressed with Lopez and surrounding areas and hope to come
back again. Barbara took them on what she called the "grand
tour" and showed them many places of interest and some fine
places to eat also.
Sympathy from the community to
the family and friends of Mike Bizup who passed away on
Saturday. Funeral was held on Tuesday morning, with burial in
St. Vladimir's Cemetery.
Mary Venitelli, her kids, Krya,
Keene and Quinn, and her fiance, Julio, all from Jackson, NJ,
spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Kitty Maximiak. They
had a really good time at the Flaming Foliage Festival in
Forksville and also at Sonestown Heritage Days. Julio
especially liked the World War II museum and got to meet Art
and Catherine McMahon.
Happy Birthday to Brad Hubiak
and Bob Burke who both celebrate on the 14th. Also, wishes to
Josh Anderson whose special day is the 17th. Brad's Dad,
Ted, has a birthday on the 20th. Hope you all have a super
day.
Happy 25th wedding anniversary
to Kevin and Terry (Kilgus) Bullis as they celebrate on the
20th. Congratulations and many more from all you friends and
relatives.
Civic meeting on Tuesday, the
19th, 7 p.m. at the Pavilion. Memberships are being taken by
Molly Johnson so you can re-new for 2005 or join also.
Roy and Dorothy Pirritano,
Exton; and Scott and Adam Aharonian, Narvon, spent the weekend
at their home on Dutch Mountain. Adam wasn't too anxious to
go home.
Guess that's the news for this
time. Enjoy your week, whatever you do. Good time of year to
gather apples and make some pies; get the pumpkins carved for
Halloween and just get out and get some fresh air. Have news,
see me, mail me, call me, or e-mail me at
uvbob@epix.net. I'll put it in for you. I'll be here
next time.
